- 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 1 tsp dried dill
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp dried chives
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp lemon juice or wine vinegar
- 1/2 tsp dijon mustard (optional)
Instructions
- 1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk until smooth.
- 2. Stir in the parsley, dill, garlic powder, onion powder, chives, salt, and pepper.
- 3. Add the lemon juice and Dijon mustard (if using).
- 4. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. The flavor improves even more after a few hours.
- Adjust the Consistency
- • For salad dressing: Add an extra 2–4 tablespoons of buttermilk.
- • For veggie dip: Use just ¼ cup buttermilk or omit it entirely.
- Fresh Herb Version (Restaurant Style)
- If you have fresh herbs available, substitute:
- • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
- • 1 tablespoon fresh dill
- • 1 tablespoon fresh chives
- Fresh herbs create a brighter, more vibrant flavor.
- Flavor Tips
- • Add ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce for extra savory flavor.
- • Mix in 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan for a richer dressing.
- • A pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce adds a subtle kick.
- • Freshly cracked black pepper makes a noticeable difference.
- Storage
- • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5–7 days.
- • Stir before serving, as slight separation is normal.
- This recipe is excellent on salads, as a dip for vegetables, chicken wings, pizza, fries, or as a spread for sandwiches and wraps.
